354/366 [Seasonal fruit]

Several years ago, the school attended by the daughters of one of my walking companions, decided to raise funds at Christmas. Rather than the usual chocolate options they offered trays of mangoes, shipped down from Queensland. I loved the idea from the beginning and I always feel that Christmas is really here when the box of mangoes is sitting on my counter. The kitchen is filled with their lush, tropical fragrance. Each member of the family has their favourite way of eating them – alone, or in a smoothie, or over yoghurt. When we have eaten our fill, I use what is left to make mango chutney or freeze the slices for later use in a mango cake. Whatever…in our house, mangoes ARE Christmas.
