55/366 [Home amongst the gum trees]

Garden gums

This is the view from the deck off our family room. We are only 19km from the  centre of Melbourne but so very fortunate to be seemingly surrounded by country vistas. Our street is the oldest gazetted road in the district and provided the route for the Cobb and Co coaches that travelled from Heidelberg out to the gold mines of Smith’s Gully and St Andrews. Apart from the asphalt surface which dates back less than thirty years, it winds it way between the trees pretty much as it did over one hundred and fifty years ago.
