223/366 [Last car standing]

Younger son has his 20 year old Honda Civic, with 200,000km on the clock, up for sale. The Senior Member of the Household has a Ford Fairlane with 160,000km that has a fast fading fuel pump and a transmission that cannot always engage reverse gear. My Mercedes A190, which had a new starter motor and service only a few weeks ago at a seriously expensive $2,500, was almost offloaded then as I had a very bad feeling about it’s future reliability. In return for my act of faith in keeping it, it took it upon itself just last week to self destruct its automatic transmission. Current quote to fix it is upwards of $4,000 and it will be off the road for close to three weeks while the replacement parts come from Germany. And all this in a car that has not yet done 80,000km but is very much out of warranty. So I am at the mercy of Oldest Child and his silver Ford Laser. And, after this, the A190’s stay in our family garage is most definitely at an end.
