328/366 [He followed me home. Can I keep him?]

Sadly, the answer is no. The storm clouds over our heads this morning helped us decide to walk around the neighbourhood rather than heading to the Very Large Park nearby. It’s a walk I’ve done many times and I generally know most of the pets en route by sight at least. And we have draconian very strict by-laws regarding dogs roaming free these days and so it is rare to find a dog wandering about with no clear intention of heading home. This cute example, with Bailey engraved on his name tag, took it upon himself to follow us on our morning walk. We did our best to persuade him that this was not a good idea but he was having none of it.

The stress of him zig-zagging back and forth across the road, usually as a car was roaring over the hill, might have helped us burn an extra calorie or two. And his attempt to head to The Very Busy Road with the 80KPH Speed Limit as we neared the end was enough to decide we could not let him find his own way home. I found an unused skipping rope to tie to his collar, rang the number on his tag and left a message for his owner who rang back within a couple of minutes. “Oh, he must have got under the fence again.  Is his brother with him?”  We assured him we only had managed to lure have one dog follow us this time. Fifteen minutes later, owner and identical twin dog arrived to take him home. I miss him already.
