359/366 [Jingle bells]

The cards are written and sent. The gifts wrapped and under the tree. The food for tomorrow is jammed tightly into the fridge. The tables and chairs are set up along the deck. The bowl of berries for our traditional Christmas breakfast is done. The Christmas music is ready on the player. Plates set out, cutlery polished, napkins folded. It takes me a long time to get to the car. The streets are quiet as we drive across town to spend our traditional Christmas Eve with friends. It was a big affair, back in the day when we all had young children, but over the years it has become a time for the four of us to catch up with each others lives, have a quiet little drink and enjoy some good food together before the big family Christmas Day extravaganza. An oasis of calm.
