Lower Plenty:3093/8:02:01pm [First quarter]

Twenty-and-eight the phases of the moon,
The full and the moon’s dark and all the crescents,
Twenty-and-eight, and yet but six-and-twenty
The cradles that a man must needs be rocked in:
For there’s no human life at the full or the dark.
From the first crescent to the half, the dream
But summons to adventure and the man
Is always happy like a bird or a beast;
But while the moon is rounding towards the full
He follows whatever whim’s most difficult

  1. I love that bit of Yeats. I love it immensely. Funny old chap, Yeats. When he wasn’t being sentimental or fey he was a damn fine poet.

    I also love the name ‘Lower Plenty’ for a town. Was there ever an ‘Upper Plenty’?

  2. There is indeed an ‘Upper Plenty’about 30 minutes drive north.. It is a tiny, little place with just a village hall at the top end of the Plenty River and we are a small suburb at the bottom end where it joins the river Melbourne is built on, the Yarra.

  3. Love the image w/ the poem! Has a very emotional feel to it! Welcome to the challenge – I look forward to getting to know you thru your images!!

  4. Great start to your blog. Welcome aboard!!

  5. The poem by Yeats is perfect for this image. Thank you for an unusual presentation and a poignant photo.
