Day 2/2012 {Ring it in}

New Year’s Eve at Villa Kore is most often a sedate affair and this year was no exception. The temperature hovered around 40 degrees Celsius for most of the day and all we wanted to do was find a spot under an air-conditioning vent and pretty much stay there with a drink and/or a book. That heat continued into New Years Day and today so now we resemble nothing more than wilted lettuce.  When the fierce sunshine began to abate as the sun slid behind the eucalyptus trees to our west and it’s filtered shadow became less deadly on our skins we took to the pool to cool off for an hour before dinner.

I return to work tomorrow morning and the early morning is the only time suitable for a walk. So the alarm is set, and in a few hours time it will ring in the beginning of the new academic year for me and the students who have or have yet to enrol. I think I’m looking forward to it.

  1. I do, intellectually, KNOW that it’s summer in your hemisphere, but it still gives me a geeky little thrill to read about hot weather and sun while we’re sitting in the dark at 4:30 pm and it’s raining again.
