41/366 [Scones]

A make-up day for the first cricket team after all the washouts early in the season. Not used to making afternoon tea two days running. In fact, I don’t recommend it. But hot scones, fresh from the oven – the smell instantly returns me to my grandmother’s kitchen and the wood burning fire that my grandpop cursed as he had to chop more wood to be sure the oven would be hot enough. I loved grannie’s hands shaping the dough and cutting out the rounds. Helping by putting a tiny dot of butter on the top of each one. So many years later, still following the process, still getting the results.
